In this series Todd Sampson puts his faith in science to the ultimate test in a series of epic experiments, trusting his life to the Laws of Physics. With the help of some of Australia’s leading young physicists, along with a first-class construction and safety team, each episode follows Todd’s journey from the kernel of an idea through to a daring experiment that will show Physics in action on an incredible scale.
This was a fantastic production to be a part of. For the title sequence we decided to take an organic approach and draw heavily on the phsyics theme.
Design Process and Development
With the concept of the series being based in science and cause and effect, we wanted to stay true to that theme. We wanted to use real world forces to create the titles.
With the help of Tortuga Studios – the same team involved in the series – we constructed a bespoke cast of each letter of the alphabet. We filled each letter with different coloured chalk powder then blasted the powder out of the letters, filming each explosion at 1000fps in a specially constructed studio. We then used these shots to compile into the series and episode titles together. In addition to the titles we also were tasked with various VFX shots to accompany Todd’s hair raising experiments. These in-show graphics were all created using particle effects which had physics applied to replicate the real world forces in a visually readable style.
